What Are They Thinking?
I had a chance to become a JV launch partner for Opt-in Accelerator.
The software is nothing short of amazing.
But what the hell are they thinking?
Let me explain. This software, it tells a buying customer or a newly signed up opt-in to tell all your friends about this, and then it says “Just fill in your gmail username and password, and then fill in your AOL username and password, then do the same with hotmail and yahoo mail. What does it do with that? It goes through and sends each of those people an email about the special report or the website or the product.
I am getting 75% more email from people I never heard of because I am in the address book of someone who bought that product! Who cares if I never get emails from that person usually, all of a sudden xcorp is emailing me because Jim Bob just downloaded their free report on how to make beer at home and they wanted to tell me about this beer making method, too!
Enough is e-freaking-nough!
Yes, the guy who wrote the program is a genius, and I have seen it in operation on websites like Shelfari and other social networking sites, but where will it end if every moron buys this software and installs it on their porn site or their buy drugs from India sites?
I am all for adding tools to help build a list, but forGod’s sake, think about whose hands you are putting this into before you go having a big product launch about it. I just got an email about this from some people I very much care about and they made it sound like I won’t ever make any money online if I don’t use it.
Well, screw it, I sure as hell don’t want to make money online if I end up pissing everyone off who gets emails from my website when they have absolutely no interest in the topic of my website.
I would make a video where I shout and say “leave me alone, leave my precious inbox alone!” But it is late and my kids are in bed already. Well, one of them is. But you know what, it doesn’t matter. People will make a buck from the sale of irresponsible tools, because like they say… guns don’t kill people, morons kill people with guns… or morons get killed because they walked in front of a gun… or something like that. Do you think that maybe I am a little ticked off?
Have an amazing day!

PS - If I were a typical Buzz Marketer, I would find a way to add an affiliate link to the product here, so that if you still didn’t agree, you could go and buy it from me. But I am serious. You want to perpetuate the bad reputation that Internet Marketing is getting about us being spammers? Then buy Optin Accelerator…
But if you want to make a statement… leave a comment here!
And check out my new software product:
http://extremeproductexplosion.com/products/ecommerce
It is a video training product that will reveal the best way to create your own ecommerce site using Wordpress… Think about that! The software comes with your domain hosting! And you can use it to create a membership site and now an ecommerce site!

Thanks for the post Michael.
I know both of the primary movers behind this product launch and was considering promoting it until I had a conversation with my programmer friend Robert Plank who had also intended to promote it prior to getting in and seeing the underlying philosophy behind the product.
After considering Robert’s viewpoint, I sent the following notice to my community prior to the launch:
“I have a retraction that I need to make today.
Yesterday I had you view a pair of videos from my friend Matt
Haslem and mentioned that I would be putting together a great
bonus package.
I had spoken with Matt this past weekend and was extremely
impressed by the work and potential of his new tool…I still am
impressed by it, however, I have chosen not to promote it based
upon some insights shared by my friend Robert Plank. Robert has
posted his read on Matt’s new product on his blog today. Read it
here http://www.robertplank.com
I am not going to tell you not to purchase it, however, I believe
that it is important that you know the potential risks and exposure
involved if you decide to invest in Matt’s product but I will not
be actively promoting it. I’m not telling you I’m not going to use
the tool myself but I don’t ever want to expose you to unneeded
risks.”
I believe you and I see the same perils to the enthusiastic use of this new tool.

Hi Micheal,
I think you are a great person to bring this to our attention.
Thank you for your honesty I am glad I read this before anyone
else’s mail promoting it as you just saved me from getting into
trouble.
Good on you
Sandra
Hi Michael
I must say I AGREE WITH YOU!
When I first saw the copy for this, my initial reaction was - well if people can’t be bothered to fill in details or even put false id’s in Tell-A-Friend Scripts then what makes them think they will go for this either? I left after that, not really bothering with it.
Then on a second reading some time later, a more thorough look through the copy - I, too, thought about my own “contact” list - it is HUGE! But I have personal contacts, business contacts (non-IM related) etc etc - would it “find” all of these and send an email? Would I be spamming the world and her granny?
I do not relish the thought, either, of receiving lots of “junk” from people who I may have bought from on a one-off basis etc. If I want to be on someone’s list I opt in.
Don’t get me wrong, but I use TAF scripts - I send details of what I think are genuinely good products to my close friends (IM’s) and business partners - they understand that - I have discussed this with them. They, in fact, sometimes do the same. I respect their judgement on this.
What I don’t agree with, is receiving what I term as SPAM from someone who may just have my email address lurking somewhere in their computer! For whatever reason.
I sincerely hope this just goes away - I does nothing for me!
Kind regards
Jo Blythe
P.S. I love a rant too!
Hey, Michael, I agree with your opinion of Optin Accelerator, but the “obnoxious factor” isn’t the half of it. Check out my post on my blog for my take on it: http://johnthegeek.us/jtgblog/.....kidding-me
Keep up the good work!
Not to mention you can get very similar functionality from a freely available product.
Hi Michael,
I agree 100% with your comments. What the heck were they thinking anyway?
It’s bad enough that there are tens of thousands of newbie marketers looking
for the magic bullet, with no idea about what they are doing. All they want is a
way to make all sorts of money, just like they have been told they will make if
only they buy some piece of special software.
There’s a big difference between using social sites to get leads and building a targeted list of qualified prospects. As far as I know, this looks like trouble not
only for all those people on the address books but for the IM industry as a whole.
How many people is this going to affect? What about those new marketers who unwittingly use this product and wind up being accused of spamming and ruining thier business reputation?
I looked this product over and at first thought it was great, but when I say the
part about importing address books into it, I instantly got turned off.
Thanks for your article.
If you look at the collective industry, this software is appropriate for maybe the top 1 to 2% of the marketers. And then only for websites that are community related, like Shelfari, MySpace and others to see if your friends are on, and possibly invite others to join, but I got a few nasty emails when I used the software from Shelfari and asked a bunch of my marketer friends to join, because they got the same request from 15 other people!
Thing is, when you put that much power in the hands of people who may not have scruples, what are you thinking? Lol! If anything, the price should be increased to $1995, and only sold to people who pass an intelligence and morality test…
Thanks for the comments, guys!
